I have just completed the HTML & CSS course. I think my understanding / my knowledge are evolving pretty well. I am really enjoying the course. I really like the assignment and projects.
For example in HTML & CSS, we first work without Bootstrap, then we work with Bootstrap 3, then Bootstrap 4 and evolve into Bootstrap 5. This evolution is nice.
Q: Is this your first time learning to code?
I live in Portugal, and I did an associate degree in web and mobile development. I have worked in a few projects, and I wanted to build deeper knowledge in web development. So, I searched online and found Altcademy.
I really like that Altcademy is affordable and accessible. Even in Portugal, in-person programs are expensive. I think learning full-stack web development is nice because the concepts and knowledge are very transferrable. From there, you can work on whatever you want.
Q: How have your experiences been learning online?
I like it better learning online. For in-person programs, you need to work in a group, which is also good, but online is more focused on yourself and individual knowledge.
For beginners, it’s better to learn online and get that individual knowledge so you understand from start to finish. I can also concentrate better when I am learning online.
With the lessons, quizzes, assignments, and projects, you can understand from start to end altogether. And, I like it!
Altcademy is also self-paced, so you can learn anytime, anywhere. For in-person bootcamps, you have to finish it in a limited time, so you have to rush through the timeline because there are deadlines.
Q: Why did you decide to learn coding?
I like computers from an early age. My brother is doing coding as well, which motivated me to code. I started by learning from him, which got me to like coding. I took his advice to learn more and pursue this career.
My previous job is also a bit about coding. I worked as a program analysis in database with technology from Oracle SQL, where we have to construct certain queries for business purposes.
So, now I am doing Altcademy full-time, but not always 40 hours a week since the program is very flexible.
Q: What are your goals?
There are many startups where I live, so I am going to get a job in software development right after this program.
