Q: Can you share a bit about yourself and where you are based?
My name is Argyrios, and I am based in Thessaloniki, Greece. I initially was in the video industry before I made a career switch to coding. Apart from Altcademy, I have also attended a vocational school for two years to learn coding but wasn’t satisfied with the techniques and approach there.
Q: Is this your first time learning to code?
No, this is not my first time learning to code. I had prior coding experience from vocational school where I learned languages like C, C++, a bit of JavaScript, and Java. However, I felt like the school was very old-fashioned and didn't delve into more practical aspects like Object Oriented Programming, CSS, HTML and Bootstrap which I am currently learning at Altcademy.
Q: What drove your interest towards coding?
The primary reason was the ample opportunities in the field of coding. I believe that in the web industry, it's more about what you know and your proficiency rather than just the connections you have. The economic crisis and lack of job opportunities in Greece also contributed to my decision to dive into coding.
Q: How is your experience of coding so far?
I am very satisfied with Altcademy. The material, the presentation, and the assignments are great and I feel that I am learning a lot of stuff here. The practical approach of learning by doing actual projects has been very helpful in understanding and applying the concepts.
Q: What are your plans after completing the program?
Once I graduate from Altcademy, I plan to look for remote jobs all over Europe. Given the high inflation rate and the economic crisis in Greece, there aren't a lot of opportunities here. I am open to relocating if necessary but would prefer to work remotely initially.
Q: Any suggestions or advice you'd like to give those considering learning to code?
The assignments and learning projects at Altcademy are challenging but the learning and experience you get from it are worth the effort. The mentors are always there to help you with any problems. Just take one step at a time, and don't hesitate to ask questions.
In conclusion, Argyrios' journey in learning to code has been a steady yet promising ride, and he seems rather optimistic about his future prospects in the tech world of coding. His perseverance and determination are indeed remarkable and serve as an inspiration to many.
